Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has arrived on the Great White Way.
The show officially opened at Broadway’s Lyric Theatre Sunday after being in previews since mid-March.
Early reviews have been positive – for instance, The New York Times called it “the new gold standard for fantasy franchise entertainment on Broadway.” (If you want to read more reviews, Playbill links to several here.)
Many reviews touched on the dazzling special effects and the cast’s superb performances, particularly from Anthony Boyle (who plays Scorpius Malfoy), Jamie Parker (Harry Potter), Noma Dumezweni (Hermione) and Paul Thornley (Ron Weasley). Those four actors, along with Sam Clemmett (Albus Potter), Poppy Miller (Ginny Potter) and Alex Price (Draco Malfoy) are reprising the roles on Broadway that they first played in Cursed Child’s original London production.
If you want to see the show on Broadway, a new block of tickets is being released Monday, April 23, at 11 a.m. ET. At that point, tickets will be on sale for shows through May 12, 2019.
