First look at 2011 Free Comic Book Day lineup

Classic Dungeons & Dragons back in print! - Available now @ Dungeon Masters Guild

It’s never too early to be thinking about Free Comic Book Day.

The 2011 incarnation of the annual event isn’t until May 7 — as always, the first Saturday in May — but organizers have announced the list of “gold sponsor” titles. They include Spider-Man, Star Wars, the Smurfs, Dark Crystal, Locke & Key and Darkwing Duck.

“This year’s event is very special and the list of Gold Comics looks better than ever” said Free Comic Book Day representative Leslie Jackson in a statement. “We are always honored to present comic book fans and new enthusiasts with some of the best comics available and hope that this year’s lineup will attract even more customers than ever before.”

A complete listing of all titles, including the 10 “gold” and 30 “silver” comic books, will be available in the January issue of Diamond Comic Distributors’ catalog, Previews, on sale at all comic book shops on Dec. 29. Until then, enjoy this sneak peek of some of the “gold” covers! (Note: Some of the covers below actually will comprise “flip books,” or two-sided comics.)
