“Kickstarter is not a store.”
So sayeth the new policies at the online crowdfunding community, which this week started requiring projects to spell out the risks and challenges involved, as well as the project creators’ qualifications to overcome them. As ICv2 points out in their report, this reinforces the in-development status of Kickstarter-funded projects.
Kickstarter also now prohibits new hardware and design projects from simulating products, requiring that they be shown in their current form only rather than how they could be. And, these creators are now limited in the rewards they can offer — echoing a similar move attempted over the summer that provoked a strong reaction from indie publishing and gaming creators on Kickstarter, that was later softened.
