The 2013 Phoenix Comicon is in full swing and for this Sunday’s classic comic cover we decided to scour the event’s exhibit hall in search of an old school cover that would convey all the fun that the Con contains, and then showcase the find in our weekly CCCC segment.

After searching far and wide we came across this gem in a bargain box at the Samurai Comics booth (#773). Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #111 has the young reporter going undercover to expose some shady wrestling matches, but Jimmy runs into trouble (as usual) when the wrestler called “Ugly Superman” gets a hold of his “Elastic Serum.”

Now there have been plenty of ugly Supermen seen at the Comicon, but I can’t say I’ve seen an “Elastic Lad” … yet. If you are out at the Con this Sunday, though, and you would like to make your dollar stretch a little further, I did notice that Samurai Comics had some incredibly generous bargains on back-issue comics and graphic novels – so be sure to swing by their booth and take a look. And thanks to owner Mike Banks for playing along with this week’s Classic Comic Cover Corner.

NOTE: If you are out at the Con and would like to see a very noble and non-ugly looking Superman, head over to the Justice League of Arizona’s photo-op area and check out their Man of Steel and his very cool Fortress of Solitude. They’ll have different characters from the DC universe on hand throughout the day.
