The first issue of ‘Dark Tower: The Long Road Home’, the next chapter in Marvel’s graphic novel expansion of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series will be released at 12:01 am Wednesday, March 5th. Comic shops across the nation (including Atomic Comics in Mesa & Chandler) will stay open extra-late just so King/comic book fans can get a head start. The initial seven-issue series, Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born, was one of the best selling and highest-profile comic books of the entire year in 2007.
King’s Dark Tower series consisted of seven books and tells the tale of Roland of Gilead, a gunslinger, and his companions in their quest to reach the Dark Tower, the linchpin of all known universes. With Stephen King himself as an advisor, the comics have expanded upon Roland’s early years that set him on his quest towards the Dark Tower. Multiple award winning writer Peter David (The Incredible Hulk, Aquaman) and artist Jae Lee handle the creative chores on the books.
As a fan of the novels, I really enjoyed the comics and thought they provided an excellent jumping on point for comics fans who were new to the series or even King fans who were new to comics. I don’t know that I’ll be there at midnight, but I’ll surely be picking this one up.
