They’re not really teenage anymore, right? But they’re still young at heart.

The Arizona Science Center will come out of its shell on Saturday to welcome the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their Party Bus full of video game stations and ice cream bars. The raucus reptiles are shell-ebrating their 25th birthday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in downtown Phoenix. The event is free and open to the public.

Confirmed to attend: Michelangelo, the orange-garbed turtle who loves pizza and uses nunchucks to fight the robots of the evil Foot Clan. “Mikey” even writes a blog about his adventures on the Party Bus tour! There may be additional surprise guests, and CeCe’s Pizza will be giving away free slices.

After you get down with the half-shell heroes, you can head inside to cool down and enjoy the many exhibits at the Arizona Science Center (admission applies), including Lego Castle Adventure (related story).

The facility also offers Saturday science classes, high-wire cycling and a rock climbing wall. Fees apply and registration may be required for some events. The Arizona Science Center is located at 600 E. Washington St. in the Heritage and Science Park in Copper Square.

The Party Bus will also be stopping at Golfland Sunsplash, 155 W. Hampton Ave., Mesa, 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday. That’s more like a turtle’s natural environment! The Party Bus crew will demonstrate martial arts moves with help from the American Taekwondo Association.

TMNT began in 1984 as a comic book from Mirage Studios that quickly spawned a cartoon series, four feature films to date, tons of toys and video games. They’re so popular that they’ve even crossed boundaries and appeared in Disney parks and magazines.
