‘Jump in the Line’ with Cult Classics and Beetlejuice

BeetlejuiceCult Classics has just the thing to get you fired-up for the release of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie this weekend, as Victor Moreno’s movie showcase presents “the ghost with the most,” Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice… No way, we’re not that crazy!

It’s hard to believe Beetlejuice is now 24 years old, and if you’ve never seen this classic horror-comedy about a deceased family who hires a crazy demon to reverse exorcise their home to get rid of its living tenants, then this Cult Classic screening will be a real Halloween season treat.

In 1988, Beetlejuice was Burton’s second big-feature film (after 85’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure put him on the map) and solidified him as a bankable, albeit off-kilter, director. The black-comedy and gothic art design of Beetlejuice (or the proper, Betelgeuse) set the tone for much of the director’s work in the years after this enormous hit; and the movie’s success paved the way for him to helm his next movie, the original Batman (also starring Michael Keaton).

Cult Classics coordinator, Victor Moreno, just recently won the New Times “2012 Best of Phoenix” award for “Best Movie Posters” and as part of this film event he will offer two original Beetlejuice poster redos created special for this show; one featuring the “bio-exorcist” Beetlejuice and one featuring Lydia and the Maitlands in their “spooky ghosted-out versions.” There are many other prizes and fun activities planned as part of this screening event.
