Dr. Diabolic does Halloween — and the Flamenco?

The devious Dr. Diabolic has some frightfully fun-filled adventures planned for this creepy week of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. The Doctor’s Traveling Roadshow & Fun‐Time Variety Hour will host two different shows, guaranteed to put the “kill” in Michael and the “boogie” in boogeyman.

Dr. Diabolic Halloween ShowFirst up, on Halloween evening Dr. Diabolic and his nefarious assistant, Nadia Neuroleptic, will be showcasing a special screening of John Carpenter’s classic original Halloween film, starring the pre- Activiated Jamie Lee Curtis. The presentation includes the short documentary film, You Can’t Kill the Bogeyman: 35 Years of Halloween, directed by Fangoria’s Justin Beahm. There will also be a costume contest and local artist Marty Freetage will have a new Halloween poster redo print available for purchase.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST DETAILS: Costumes must follow these guidelines – no masks, no weapons, no nudity. No harmful or potentially harmful substances will be allowed. This can include, but is not limited, to water, silly string, flames, fireworks, cigarettes, and any other substance that can be fired, launched, or dripped. Everything that comes on stage with you should leave with you.

Dr. Diabolic Day of the Dead Variety ShowFor Dia de los Muertos (the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday), Dr. D and Nadia will be hosting Latino dancers, musicians and short films for their Day of the Dead Variety Show. This event will showcase the Spanish dancing artistry of Flamenco Por La Vida, the Mexican folk music of Casandra Hernandez and Francisco Floresand a special tribute to the beloved luchadore, El Santo, featuring rare 35mm film trailers of the legendary wrestler. There will also be a presentation of the award-winning stop-motion animated short film, Hasta los Huesos.

The Dia de los Muertos show will run in conjunction with the Phoenix First Friday art walk event. Entrance to the Phoenix Art Museum is free, but the Whiteman Hall events are $12 for Halloween and $15 for the Day of the Dead Variety Show. Both Dr. Diabolic Shows are sponsored by Bookman’s Entertainment Exchange.
