Nerdvana blogger gives ‘Star Wars’ talk at Ignite Phoenix

Nerdvana contributor and Pop Goes the Culture movie reviewer Dustin Diehl will be among 18 presenters at Friday’s Ignite Phoenix #9 event in the Virginia G. Piper Theater at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

Ignite events are five-minute “elevator pitches” by local creatives talking about their current projects or favorite ideas. Last April, Dustin presented “You’ll Never Watch Star Wars the Same Way Again,” digging into the arcane threads that bind the original Star Wars trilogy to the vast Expanded Universe of novels, games, comics and action figures that go beyond what was filmed. (Watch it below!)

This time, Dustin’s presentation is “How Attending a Star Wars Convention Could Change the World.” He’ll have lots of source material to draw from, having attended last summer’s Star Wars Celebration V in Florida — and blogged about it for Nerdvana!

Other gloriously geeky topics on the program include “Lessons in Dating from Shaun of the Dead,” “Fairy Tales: Not Just for Wusses,” “Internet Radio,” “What the Neuroscience of Magic Reveals about our Everyday Deceptions,” “Why I LOVE My 3D Printer (and you will too!)” and “Saving a 6,000-year-old Culture from Extinction.”
