For those whom haven’t heard, a special pop-culture event called the Phoenix Comicon officially kicks off on Thursday. Among the loads of exhibitors, artists, special guests, and panels it will be holding, there will be an incredibly large gaming presence at the event where gamers can experience their favorite medium in style.
Returning for their tenth year running will be Arcade Zone Hard Punch (AZHP) Gaming, with their 10,000 square foot space in the Hyatt Regency’s Grand Ballroom dedicated to casual video game play and viewing areas. The group will also be hosting a slew of tournaments throughout the weekend for games such as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Mortal Kombat X, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and many more. AZHP Gaming will have their room open 24-hours each day of the convention for attendees to get in on casual play.
For those whom crave something a bit different, there will also be the Arizona Video Games Showcase presented by Game CoLab. The event will be held in the Hyatt Regency Gilbert Room throughout the four days of the convention, and will feature approximately 20 video games created entirely by local developers. Attendees are encouraged to try out the new games, talk with the game creators and see the panels held by developers from the Arizona area.
Of course, the convention won’t be without its fair share of special guests with gaming credibility. Senior Narrative Designer at Ubisoft/Red Storm Entertainment Jay Posey, G4TV’s Attack of the Show veteran Chris Gore, and Fallout series voiceover alums Ron Perlman and Jason Spisak are all scheduled to be in attendance.
The gaming fun definitely won’t stop when the convention halls close for the night either, as the Endgame Bar will be hosting its own Bioshock themed afterparty on Friday. The event promises to be a masquerade with the fictional underwater city of Rapture as the backdrop. Phoenix Comicon attendees can get in for free with their badge, but it is a 21 and older gathering.

Badges are currently on sale at $80 for a full event, $15 for Thursday only, $35 for Friday only, $45 for Saturday only, and $35 for Sunday only. Prices are set to go up approximately 5-10 dollars per a badge when purchased at the door.
