LOTS of juicy Doctor Who news today.
BBC America is featuring a different “classic” episode of the long-running British sci-fi series each month, as part of the show’s 50th anniversary celebration. Last month we got “The Aztecs” starring William Hartnell. Next up (Feb. 24) we get an episode that is not currently available on Netflix: Patrick Troughton’s chilling 1967 episode “The Tomb of the Cybermen.” The episode will be shown as part of The Doctors Revisited: The Second Doctor. This will be good preparation for fans of the current series who will be watching Neil Gaiman’s Cyberman episode later this year …
More spoiler-y: It’s not just the Cybermen returning to haunt the Time Lord from his past in the second half of this season. BBC America’s Anglophenia blog reveals the identity of another classic monster, who will face off against Matt Smith’s Doctor in a submarine.
BBC News also confirms rumors of a special 3-D episode for the show’s 50th anniversary. And casting seems nearly complete for An Adventure in Space and Time, the dramatization of Doctor Who’s unlikely genesis penned by prolific franchise novel and episode writer Mark Gatiss.
