Christopher Lloyd returns to the role of “Doc” Emmett Brown in a Back to the Future computer game series coming this winter in the form of five monthly “episodes” from Telltale Games.
The game will also use the likenesses of Lloyd and co-star Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, and was made with consultation from the Back to the Future movies’ co-creator and writer, Bob Gale.
“Creating cinematic adventures true to the source is a top mission for Telltale,” Telltale CEO Dan Connors said in a press release. “Securing Marty and Doc for the games, and presenting the experience that fans know and love, has been top on our list since we initiated development.”
Telltale also announced that the games will feature the DeLorean time machine, and to celebrate the historic vehicle’s return, it will make a guest appearance this weekend at the 2010 Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle Washington, where fans can have their photos taken with an authentic replica of the famous vehicle.
It’s a Back to the Future renaissance of sorts as merchandising ramps up toward the Oct. 26 release of the ’80s trilogy on Blu-ray and DVD. Looney Labs, the makers of the ever-changing card game Fluxx, are releasing a card game based on the movies this week (review to come soon), and, coincidentally, Nike has filed a patent for self-lacing sneakers like those seen worn by McFly and his hapless son in Back to the Future II.
