Hollow victory

One of Nintendo Switch’s best indie games is getting a physical release

Hollow Knight is one of the best values you can get of the many indie games available for Nintendo Switch. I came late to the phenomenon, but its elegant 2-D storybook graphics and moody atmosphere didn’t take long to win me over once I’d given it a try.

Of course, it’s not just available for Switch — PlayStation 4 and PC gamers can enjoy it as well, and now they won’t just be limited to digital downloads. A physical release of Hollow Knight is planned for this summer — after being canceled once already.

Hollow Knight physical edition

All Hollow Knight physical editions will include a manual and a fold-out map of Hallownest as well as standard packaging, but there’s also a collector’s edition that features a gold-foil collector’s box, a brooch with a display stand, a comic book and a set of gold-foil art prints. Pre-orders entitle you to an exclusive papercraft set, and Switch buyers can get an exclusive screen cleaning cloth. The PC version is a DRM-free disc with a Steam key.

Even though I’ve purchased Hollow Knight on two systems, I’m feeling an itch for that manual and map. Why oh why can’t they just release an old-school strategy guide? Oh, wait — they have that, too, and it’s gorgeous, of course.
