Saboten con 2014The locally held anime convention Saboten Con is slated to take place this Labor Day weekend in Glendale. The event is often known for being a purveyor of anime related guests, vendors, screenings, and panels, but this year it has a bit of extra programming to attract more gamers this round.

On the gaming guest lineup, the convention will be hosting voice actor DC Douglas, widely known for his role as Albert Wesker in the game Resident Evil 5, and Kingdom Hearts voice actor Derek Stephen Prince to name a few. Pokemon and Mario fans will also get a chance to duke it out with others, as there will be Pokemon X/Y and Mario Kart 7 tournaments for Nintendo 3DS players on Sunday at the event.

The convention has once again partnered with Arcade Zone Hard Punch (commonly known as AZHP) Gaming, to host a slew of tournaments, as well as casual freeplay, for attendees on a variety of games throughout the weekend as well. The group plans to host free to enter tournaments for King of Fighters XIII, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Persona 4 Arena, and Blazblue Chronophantasma on Saturday.

On Sunday AZHP Gaming will host the conventions’ first ever paid tournaments with a guaranteed $250 prize pot for each. The competitions will be for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Ultra Street Fighter IV, with a $5 entry fee and a 70/20/10 split for the top three placers in each game. First-person-shooter enthusiasts will also get some love, as AZHP Gaming will hold a Call of Duty: Ghosts tournament on Monday, the final day of the convention.

Details about all of the tournaments and the gaming schedule can be found on the Saboten Con website. Passes are currently available for purchase online and cost around $20-$45 depending on the badge type.  The convention will take place on August 29-September 1 at the Glendale Renaissance hotel in Glendale, Arizona.
