Zach Galifianakis stars in It’s Kind of a Funny Story, a quirky dramedy about a teenage boy struggling with depression and suicide. While it may not sound funny, the movie handles the subject matter well, respecting the sensitvity of the plot while injecting a fair amount of humor. Zach Galifianakis shines as Bobby, a wonderfully understated role for this rising star. Based off the award winning book by Kazuo Ishiguro, Never Let Me Go is a haunting tale that gives its young cast a chance to exercise their dramatic acting skills. Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield steal the show, delivering powerhouse performances despite their shamefully small roles. Carey Mulligan struggles to do much else but cry on-screen, lending to the horrid pace and lack of substantial character development. A valiant effort to bring an incredibly thoughtful book to the big screen, but ultimately, Never Let Me Go is unsure of itself. Read the full review here.
