Even as speculation spreads that newly minted Star Wars: Episode VII director J.J. Abrams hasn’t committed to the previously announced 2015 release date for the movie, Disney and Lucasfilm are taking steps to “accelerate their plans,” as Darth Sidious might say.
The scheduled release this fall of Episodes II and III have been postponed until further notice to allow the studio to focus entirely on the long-awaited next chapter in the Saga:
Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall’s scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.
It wasn’t until after Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm and Episode VII plans were made public in late October that the release dates for the 3-D versions of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were announced
