Classic Doctor Who marathon returns to Twitch through Jan. 25

Classic Dungeons & Dragons back in print! - Available now @ Dungeon Masters Guild

Are you sad that BBC America’s jumbled marathon of modern Doctor Who has ended after the premiere of the Thirteenth Doctor’s New Year’s Day special, “Resolution”?

Well, fire up your time-space visualizer: After making a mark on a whole new generation this past summer, classic Doctor Who (1963-89) is returning to the streaming service Twitch for another marathon starting Jan. 5. Episodes will begin streaming at 10 a.m. Pacific time each day of the week, according to the BBC; a full list of episode times and 10 p.m. encore runs in the Doctor Who marathon can be found here.

You can expect to see adventures of all the first seven Doctors — William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy — but you won’t see the episodes that are missing or reconstructed with animation, or many of the episodes featuring Terry Nation’s Daleks that weren’t even available on Britbox streaming until recently.

The first three Doctors will take up Jan. 5-13, spilling into Jan. 14 when Tom Baker and his scarf appear; he won’t give up the telly until Jan. 20, when Davison appears. Colin Baker debuts Jan. 23, and McDoy has the last day (Jan. 25) all to himself.

Many memes came out of Twitch’s first Doctor Who marathon last year, such as First Doctor companion Ian Chesterton’s “LONDON 1965!” exclamation upon his and Barbara Wright’s return to their home time, as fans old and new shared their reactions in Twitch’s live comments and gave birth to a refreshing remix of fandom borne out of the popularity of “new Who” (2005 to the present) and the availability of the classic incarnation on new platforms like Twitch.

Twitch loves classic Doctor Who – and companion Ian Chesterton most of all
