The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on Blu-ray and DVD March 19. Available in a Blu-ray combo, Blu-ray 3-D combo and two-disc DVD special edition, all versions will feature UltraViolet digital copies and more than two hours of bonus content. Digital platforms including iTunes, Xbox, PlayStation, Amazon, Vudu and CinemaNow, will make the film available for download purchase on March 12.
In addition, an UltraViolet code available with the disc purchase will let viewers access a live online event with director Peter Jackson when he hosts an exclusive first look at The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug, 3 p.m. Eastern/noon Pacific March 24. An edited version of the presentation will be archived online. The second movie in the film trilogy is set to be released in theaters Dec. 13, with the final part, The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” set for a July 18, 2014, release.
The three-disc Blu-ray combo pack will cost $35.99, with the five-disc 3-D combo pack available for $44.05 and the two-disc DVD edition available for $28.98. All discs feature the theatrical cut. Special features include the full suite of Jackson’s production video journals.
