Blizzard Blitz: June 21st – Dueling Heroes and WoW developments

Springs Hosting

Blizzard Entertainment

Heroes is live and adding new content already, but a bunch of new WoW content is coming down the pipe Tuesday!

Make sure you take advantage of Patch 6.2 coming out for WoW by getting 25% off WoW gear in the Blizzard Store PLUS 50% off the base WoW game and 40% off the latest expansion!  Also, if you were interested in entering the costume contest for BlizzCon the sign-ups are now live!

Diablo 3 – Were you not able to see the Play Your Way Livestream this week?  You are in luck then since they have reposted it to Twitch and YouTube for the rest of us!!

HearthStone – Ready to Tavern Brawl, or check out the new card backs from a Samsung Galaxy promotion or getting Rank 20 this month?  Well you have just a few hours left to play Tavern Brawl and get a free pack of cards for winning!  What about if you have 100 Play mode wins?  You can now start the Easy Rider quest in HS in order to get a special cardback mount in Heroes!  Then check out what Tinkmaster Overspark had to say about that battle the ogre was talking about last week.

Heroes of the Storm – Last week I reported that there would be a gradual XP boost all the way to 100% next week, but on Monday it appeared that Blizzard changed their mind and instead boosted us right to 100% this week!!  So make sure you play all you can until midnight June 24th when this bonus will end!  I’ve been able to use it and boost myself up to Rank 30 in order to unlock Hero League and almost have my first hero to Rank 10 to unlock a Master Skin for the hero!

Did you see Heroes at the PC Gaming Show?  If not, here is an indepth review of some things released like the Skeleton King (Warrior), the Butcher (Assassin), the Monk (Support) AND the Eternal Conflict map complete with treasure goblins!!!  You can also find another review of a LOT of things that haven’t seen the light of day, until now!  Speaking of getting our hands on things soon, like the patch coming June 30th, we’ll see this Tuesday bring us a Public Test Realm for Heroes!!

Want to see what the schedule is for the Heroes North American Open tournament?  What about all the other ways an eSports player can get to BlizzCon to play Heroes?  Did you enjoy watching some of the teams in the North American Open and want to find out more about them?

Don’t forget about the fan art contest that is ending in a few days, or the Weekly Sale that is ending on Tuesday too!!

StarCraft 2 – Make sure you play enough over the next few days until Season 2 locks on Monday and Season 3 starts on the 29th!  Can’t wait until Legacy of the Void is out?  Then look forward to Whispers of Oblivion a 3 mission set that happens between the events of Heart of the Swarm and LotV which will be released PRIOR to LotV coming out!!  Well, until either of these come out make sure you check out the latest Balance Update for the LotV Beta which introduces a new ability for Ghosts as it removes armor from the Ravager!

World of Warcraft – Did you get to enjoy the stream of Hellfest that was posted early this morning or ride the Blizzard bus there?!  Well there is no time to relax as Patch 6.2, Fury of Hellfire, will drop this Tuesday which brings us new features introduced this week like being able to Timewalk in Black Morass and Mana-Tombs, a Legendary ring questline, and the schedule of Hellfire Citadel raiding!  Oh and if you haven’t logged in since December 2010 then your character name will be freed up.  Plus if you are interested in the WoW Arena World Championship then check out the schedule for it here!  Don’t forget that the Midsummer Fire Festival has started!

Twitter Question of the Week – Q:  @BlizzHeroes Can you put ?/# as an overlay for the quest button so we can see if we have quests outstanding w/o clicking in? Easy to forget.  A:  Earlier this week I was distracted with group play, and missed the fact I was full on quests so by not playing 1 game with 1 specific hero, I lost out on that extra quest gold since I couldn’t get another quest the next day.  Why have to click in to the feature, in order to find out how many quests are or aren’t done?

  • The correct phrase is “coming down the pike.” “Pike” is an old-fashioned word for railroad.

    • Either is fine but Pike is short for turnpike which is generally in reference to an expressway, especially one where a toll is charge. While originally the term was pike, pipe is completely acceptable and in this case preferred.

Pipe is preferred in this case because it’s short for pipeline and makes more sense in programming/internet/gaming terms.

Pipeline in the software sense means usually streaming data, and in this case you would indeed be downloading data from Blizzard to your computer.

Thus these updates from Blizzard and coming down the pipe soon.

  • Wow, thanks for reading and giving me feedback! It’s awesome to know that there are other Blizzard-heads (is that a word? it is now!) out there, and the Blitz has some smart readers! I’ve heard the term “coming down the pike” frequently since I’m from Michigan, even though we really have no turnpikes in the state, but by day I work in the IT field where yes we have a development pipeline just like Blizzard does. Of course the term can double for the pipe we get our data from, so I guess it fits either way!

Since you’re both here….what Blizzard games are you playing right now? What are you looking forward to most in those games?

    Thanks for being loyal readers!
