Iron Man is a fanboy’s dream come true

I saw Iron Man this morning and it was amazing! After drooling for months over the images and trailers and overall hype surrounding the movie, I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise. But you really never know if a movie will be good until you see it – especially a comic book movie. And after seeing Iron Man all I can say is: YOU HAVE TO SEE IRON MAN!

It has all the elements of a great movie and delivers them with unbelievable success. The acting is great. Robert Downey Jr. is superb as Tony Stark. So good in fact that you can’t imagine any one else playing that role. He owns it! Jeff Bridges (Obadiah Stane), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts) and Terrence Howard (Jim Rhodes) also deliver solid performances in a movie that never feels kiddy or comic-booky, but instead very smart, sophisticated and fun. And yes, the movie is funny too, especially Robert Downey Jr. who dishes out tons of cool lines. Overall the movie is extremely well written, with much credit going to screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Children of Men) and others.

The action is the movie is stunning, as are all of the cool scenes of Tony Stark developing the Iron Man armor. You really get to know who Stark is and how he becomes a better man by seeing him interact with all of his technology and innovations. They are just tools of course, but they allow him to become something bigger than himself and change the way he and Stark Industries affect the world.

I’ll stop myself from going on. There is just too much great stuff to talk about with this movie. You just have to see it yourself. Final props must go to director John Favreau who brings all the elements together to make a fantastic movie that captures the spirit of the comic book and exceeded our expectations.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

When you do see the movie, make sure to stay until after the credits to see a great scene with actor Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury – Head of S.H.I.E.L.D. The scene was rumored to be in the movie (sweet) and then rumored to be taken out (bummer), so I guess they decided to put it at the end of the film (sweet). It’s a short scene but a very cool one as we all know Jackson looks just like General Nick Fury in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. The comic book character’s look and personality was tailored after the actor and was done with his permission. To see him in real life looks amazing and hearing him try to recruit Stark for the “Avengers Initiative” will have fanboys like me craving for it to become reality.

  • Iron Man was practically flawless as a super hero flick; it drops pretty obvious hints that would indicate a sequel as well… i’m thinking the next one should be equally great
