Scientists in Australia have discovered an octopus in Indonesia that collects discarded coconut shells from the ocean floor and carries them along to use as shelter — a use of tools that is believed to be unprecedented among invertebrates.
So not only are octopuses even more clever than previously believed. Now they know how to use armor. Even if it does look like something the Professor from Gilligan’s Island cooked up, it has terrifying implications for the future.
